SUMMARY:World Down Syndrome Day
DESCRIPTION:In December 2011\, the General Assembly declared 21 March as World Down Syndrome Day (A/RES/66/149). The General Assembly decided\, with effect from 2012\, to observe World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March each year. In order to raise public awareness of Down syndrome\, the General Assembly invites all Member States\, relevant organizations of the United Nations system and other international organizations\, as well as civil society\, including non-governmental organizations and the private sector\, to observe World Down Syndrome Day in an appropriate manner.

SUMMARY:International Day of Forests
DESCRIPTION:The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests in 2012 to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests. Countries are encouraged to undertake local\, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees\, such as tree planting campaigns. \nThe organizers are the United Nations Forum on Forests and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)\, in collaboration with Governments\, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and other relevant organizations in the field.
