“Let us preserve, nurture, and promote the Macedonian language – an eternal monument of our existence.”
In honor of May 5, the Day of the Macedonian Language, the “Zaev – One Society for All” foundation addresses this message to all Macedonians, wherever they may be.
We are proud to recognize that this day was established in 2019, during the tenure of the current head of our foundation, Zoran Zaev, who was then the Head of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia. Admittedly, he is the most deserving of maintaining this celebration for the fifth consecutive year.
This day was chosen to commemorate the Decision of the National Government of Federal Macedonia that recognized the Macedonian language as an official script on May 5, 1945. Two months later, the Ministry of Education legalized the orthography, thereby codifying the Macedonian language.
The “Zaev – One Society for All” foundation celebrates this year’s Day of the Macedonian Language in a way that corresponds with its aspirations and program objectives. Based on a previously signed Memorandum of Cooperation with the Macedonian Language Institute “Krste Misirkov,” our foundation supports activities for the institution’s jubilee. In particular, the “Krste Misirkov” Institute announced an essay competition for its 70th anniversary, focusing on the following topics: “Our Language Today” (aimed at primary and secondary school students) and “What We Have Done and What We Have Yet to Do for the Macedonian language” (aimed at university students). Our foundation provided monetary prizes to the authors of the three best essays in each category. The names of the awardees will be announced on May 5, the Day of the Macedonian Language, while the prizes will be awarded from June 26 to 29, during the commemoration of the 70th anniversary. The total prize fund provided by the “Zaev – One Society for All” foundation amounts to 134,000 denars.
